Dowling Dominates the Panthers; 6-3, 8-2

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team suffered a tough conference loss to Dowling College, 6-3, 8-2, on Friday afternoon. The Panthers drop to 3-7 overall and 2-2 in the NYCAC, while the Golden Lions improve to 6-9 on the season and 2-2 in the NYCAC.

Game One
After three scoreless innings, the Panthers got on board in the bottom of the fourth as junior Amy Delmore scored on an error by the catcher. She was 3-4 in the game. The Golden Lions came alive in the sixth inning, hitting two doubles and a triple to bring in four runs. Dowling extended its lead to 6-1 in the seventh inning. A late rally by Adelphi brought in two runs in the bottom of the inning, but it was not enough.

Junior Carla Buonviaggio (1-2) faced 29 batters, striking out six, walking two. Sophomore Jackie Rogers recorded the win for Dowling, giving up three runs, two earned.

Adelphi had three runs on 10 hits with no errors. Dowling had six runs on 12 hits with one error.

Game Two
Freshman Julia Schaper opened the game with a triple and was brought home on a single by senior Tonia Trapani to give Adelphi a 1-0 lead. Dowling roared back, going on an 8-1 run over the next six innings, notching four homeruns in the process. Rogers went 3-4 with a double and a two-run homer to lead the Golden Lions.

Senior Crystal Freyer recorded the win for Dowling, striking out six and walking three. Senior Katie Terris (0-1) pitched 3.2 innings for Adelphi recording the loss.

Adelphi had two runs on eight hits with no errors. Dowling had eight runs on 11 hits with one error.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, March 26, traveling to Southampton College. The game is scheduled for a 12 noon start.
