Baseball Splits With Concordia, Kipling Throws a No-Hitter

March 19, 2005

Game One /Game Two

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi baseball team split with Concordia, falling 5-1 in the first game, but the Panthers rebounded to win the second game, 7-0. In the second game senior Adam Kipling (Smithtown, N.Y.) allowed just two Clippers on base, while no-hitting Concordia. With the split the Panthers are 4-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

In game one Adelphi fell behind in the first inning 1-0, but then played the Clippers tough, not allowing another run until the seventh. In the sixth the Panthers pulled even but gave up four runs in the seventh, including a three-run home run that helped give Concordia a 5-1 win.

Game two was all Kipling, who faced 22 Concordia batters, struck out two and walked two, while giving up no runs or hits. Neither team could get on the board through three innings, but the Panthers but Michael Aliperti (East Setauket, N.Y.) doubled in Robert Calca (Elmont, N.Y.) to give the Panthers a 1-0 edge.

Adelphi tacked on two more runs in the fifth and a run in the sixth, and exploded for three runs in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach. Thomas Cali (Shirley, N.Y.) was 1-3 from the plate with two RBI, while Calca had a team-high three hits in the game.

The Panthers return to action on Sunday, March 20 when they take on Concordia at 1:00 pm in Garden City, New York.
