Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Merrimack, 16-6

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi women's lacrosse team got four goals from both Lauren Lopez (Farmingville, N.Y.) and Dawn Anselmin (Lynbrook, N.Y.) in a 16-6 victory over Merrimack. With the won the #1 ranked Panthers improve to 3-0 on the season, while Merrimack drops to 1-1.

Adelphi opened the game with four unanswered goals, two coming from Anselmin. Merrimack responded with goals from Beth Arnold (Arlington, MA) and Alison Colarusso (North Andover, MA) to pull within 4-2 with 13:32 left in the first half. But the Panthers closed the half with four more unanswered goals to enter halftime with a commanding 8-2 edge.

The Warriors opened the second half scoring, pulling to within 8-3 before Adelphi tacked on two more goals to take a 10-3 lead with 21:59 to play. The Panthers would add six more goals on their way to a 16-6 win.

Anselmin and L. Lopez each scored four goals and handed out three assists. Diana Lopez (Farmingville, N.Y.) added two goals and two assists, while teammate Jessica Marra (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) scored two goals. Allyson Murphy (Williston Park, N.Y.) collected four saves in the win.

Colarusso scored three goals to lead the Warriors, while Lawana DaCosta (Framingham, MA) made 11 saves in goal.

The Panthers return to action on Sunday, March 20 when they play host to Assumption College at 12:30 pm on Stiles Field.
