The Adelphi baseball convincingly snapped a six-game skid with a 17-4 rout of visiting Dominican College. The Panthers scored 14 runs in the first four innings and starter Chris Palladino (East Meadow, N.Y.) held the Chargers to just four runs in five innings of work to pick up the win. With the win Adelphi improves to 2-6 overall.
Adelphi entered the bottom of the second inning with the scoreboard reading 0-0. The Panthers then exploded for five runs on five hits, including a triple by Frank Alesia (Valley Stream, N.Y.) that started the rally. Dominican answered back with a run in the top of the third, but Adelphi continued to pull away with three runs in the bottom of the third and six more runs in the fourth.
Junior Nick Lio (Massapequa, N.Y.) relived Palladino after five innings of work and pitched an inning and a half of scoreless relief to close the door on Dominican and give Adelphi a 17-4 win.
Doug Anderson (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and Brian Rath (Wantagh, N.Y.) led the offensive charge, going 3-5 with three RBI apiece. Alesia chipped in with a three hit day, including a double and a triple.
The Panthers return to action on Friday, March 18 when they play host to visiting Queens in their conference opener at 3:00 pm.
