Panthers Drop Two Against the Argos

Belmont, CA - The Adelphi University softball team fell to Notre Dame de Nemur, 3-2 and 9-1, on Tuesday afternoon. The Panthers drop to 1-3 on the season while the Argos extend their win streak to four games for a 10-16 record.

Game One
The Argos scored first, bringing in a runner in the second inning. Neither team would score again until the sixth inning when Adelphi took a 2-1 lead. Senior Tonia Trapani singled then stole second and advanced to third on a single by senior Theresa Kotulak. Sophomore Carla Buonviaggio brought in two runners on a single for two RBI.

The Argos rallied back in the bottom of the sixth, scoring on a two run homer to clinch the game, 3-2.

Senior Katie Terris (0-1) was the pitcher on record in the loss.

Adelphi had two runs on six hits and two errors. NDNU had three runs on seven hits and no errors.

Game Two
NDNU jumped on board in the first inning and extended its lead to 6-0 through the fifth inning. Adelphi picked up its only run in the sixth inning when Kotulak walked then advanced to third on a double by junior Amy Delmore. Freshman Baily Lawrence pinch ran for Kotulak and scored on a sacrifice fly by Buonviaggio. However, the Argos continued their rally, tallying three final runs for the win.

Freshman Julie Schaper (1-0) took the loss, pitching 3.2 innings.

Adelphi had 1 run on four hits with 1 error. NDNU had nine runs on 11 hits and no errors.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, March 16, traveling to Turlock, CA to face Cal State-Stanislaus at 1:00 p.m.
