Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi women's lacrosse took on St. Thomas Aquinas today in the school's first ever women's lacrosse game. The Panthers controlled every facet of the game and cruised to a 20-3 win. With the win #1 ranked Adelphi improves to 2-0 on the season while St. Thomas Aquinas falls to 0-1.

Adelphi got on the board early and often, with Dawn Anselmin (Lynbrook, N.Y.) scoring off a feed from Katherine Hock (Mineola, N.Y.) just seconds into the game. Fifteen minutes into the game the Panthers had built up a 9-0 lead. With 14:43 left to play in the first half Kim DeLorenzo (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) made Spartan history as she scored the first goal in the short history of St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse off of a pass from Katelyn McDonagh (Thiells, N.Y.).

The Panthers tacked on four more goals in the first half to enter the break with a 13-3 advantage. The second half was similar to the first with Adelphi holding the Spartans scoreless, while netting seven goals of their own to claim a 20-3 win.

Lauren Lopez (Farmingville, N.Y.) led the way with three goals and two assists, while teammate Jayna Kyriacou (West Hempstead, N.Y.) chipped in three goals and an assist. Anselmin contributed five points, on three assists and two goals and Diana Lopez netted two goals and two assists. DeLorenzo scored two goals, while McDonagh scored a goal and handed out an assist for St. Thomas Aquinas.

Allyson Murphy (Williston Park, N.Y.) collected four saves and teammate Grace Monjardo (Rocky Point, N.Y.) made one save for Adelphi. Nicole Zippilli (Washingtonville, N.Y.) made seven saves for the Spartans.

Adelphi returns to action on Friday, March 18 when they play host to visiting Merrimack at 3:30 pm.
