The Adelphi baseball dropped the final three games of their spring trip to host West Georgia by the combined score of 32-14 to close out their southern swing with six straight losses. The Panthers return home with an overall record of 1-6.
In the first game Adelphi scored four runs on three hits in the first two innings to jump out to a 4-0 lead. But West Georgia's pitching took over after that, throwing five scoreless innings, allowing the Braves to get back into the game. The Panthers hung tough, trailing just 6-4 in the eighth until West Georgia closed the door with a grand slam to take a commanding 11-4 lead. Adelphi rallied in the ninth, scoring three runs but fell 11-7.
In the second game The Braves came out early when Tyler Meigs hit a grand slam for the second straight day to help West Georgia out to a 7-0 lead after the first inning. The Braves tacked on two more runs in the second for a 9-0 cushion on their way to a 16-8 win.
The third game was much tighter with senior Tom Sicari (Westbury, N.Y.) leading off the game with a home run to push Adelphi out to a 1-0 lead. Rinaldo Fable (Franklin, Square, N.Y.) kept the West Georgia bats silent through four innings and allowed just three runs in six innings of work.
With the score tied in the sixth Adelphi's pitching gave up a two-run double, which put West Georgia up 5-3.
Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday March 13 when they open their conference schedule at home against Queens at 3:00 pm.
