Box Score

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - Senior Melanie Mangone (Middle Village, N.Y.) dropped in 17 of her career-high 29 points in the second half as the Adelphi University women's basketball team cruised past Molloy College, 93-69. The Panthers improve to 11-10 overall and 10-8 in the NYCAC.

A balanced Panther offense included four players in double figures. Junior Carlyshia Hurdle (Brentwood, N.Y.) celebrated her birthday with 21 points, along with a career-tying 16 rebounds. Senior Meranne Whitney (Nashua, N.H.) chipped in 15 points, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Freshman Gianna Smith (Hempstead, N.Y.) added 13 points.

After trading baskets in the opening minutes, the score was knotted at 9-9 at 16:26. Mangone accounted for seven points in a 17-6 Panther run, which opened the lead to 26-15 with 11:58 remaining. The Lady Lions rattled off seven unanswered points to close the gap to four, 28-24. This would prove to be the closest they would come, as Adelphi pulled away again, holding a 46-36 advantage at the end of the first half.

Adelphi picked up its streak in the second half, watching its lead balloon to as much as 33 points with 8:04 left in regulation.

This afternoon's win snaps a three-game losing streak for the Panthers. They hope to continue their winning ways as they travel to Queens College on Wednesday, February 9, for a 5:00 pm tip-off. In their first meeting this season, the Panthers defeated the Knights, 84-71, on January 24.
