The Adelphi men's basketball team had four players in double-figures and held Dowling to just 31 percent shooting from the field to cruise to an 82-53 win. With the win the Panthers improve to 21-5 overall and 20-3 in conference play, while host Dowling falls to 5-21 overall and 5-18 in the NYCAC.
Adelphi came out hot, outscoring Dowling 17-6 over the first seven and a half minutes of play to take a commanding 11 point lead at the 12:39 mark. The Panthers kept the pressure on and extended their lead to 24 points, 38-14 with 4:24 to play in the first half and would enter the locker room with a 46-25 advantage.
The second half was more of the same as the Panthers took a 36 point lead on a James Samuels (Uniondale, N.Y.) lay-up with 10:35 to play. Dowling got as close as 28 points with 1:31 to play but could not get any closer as Adelphi came away with an 82-53 win.
Samuels led four Panthers in double-figures with 15 points, while teammate Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 12. Jamaal Wagner (Jamaica, N.Y.) and Eric Martin (Laurelton, N.Y.) chipped in 11 and 10 points respectively.
Dowling was led by Wesley Boone's 14 points and four rebounds. Teammate Wayne Holt chipped in 11 points and four rebounds.
Adelphi closes out the regular season on Saturday, February 26 when they play host to visiting Philadelphia University at 7:30 pm.
