The Adelphi women's basketball team held Queens College to just 39 percent shooting from the field and got 21 points and 13 rebounds from senior Carlyshia Hurdle to pick up a hard fought 78-76 win in Flushing, New York. With the win the Panthers improve to 2-3 overall and remain unbeaten in the conference at 2-0, while Queens falls to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in NYCAC play.
Queens held Adelphi to just 35 percent shooting in the first half, and shot 6-9 from beyond the arc as a team to build a 37-35 halftime lead. In the second half the Knights controlled the action until the Panthers used a late rally to steal the lead and claim a 78-76 win.
Patti Cronin (East Islip, N.Y.) just missed out on a triple-double, leading the Knights with 16 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds. Erin White (Flushing, N.Y.), Jillian Henn (Mohegan, N.Y.) and Jessica Sanchez (Bayside, N.Y.) also scored in double-figures, chipping in 15, 13 and 11 points respectively.
Mary Lepore (Manhasset, N.Y.) continued her strong play, giving the Panthers 19 points and nine rebounds. Betty Mendieta (North Bergen, NJ) and Gianna Smith (Hempstead, N.Y.) chipped in 10 points apiece, while Smith added 12 rebounds.
The Panthers return to action on Monday, December 5 when they travel to Smithfield, Rhode Island to take on Bryant University.
