The Adelphi women's basketball team out scored NYIT 40-27 in the second half to overcome a six point halftime deficit and remain unbeaten in conference play, picking up a 72-65 win. With the win the Panthers even their overall record at 5-5 and push their NYCAC win streak to five games (5-0). NYIT collected their fifth loss of the season to fall to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in conference action.
NYIT jumped out to a quick 8-4 lead just 16:17 into the half behind six early points from Krissy Porter (Romeo, MI). Adelphi battled back taking a three-point lead, 13-10, at the 12:08 mark on an Erin Thames (River Vale, NJ) jumper. The lead changed hands three more times before Adelphi seemed to take control, outscoring NYIT 12-8 over a four and a half minute stretch to claim a 28-24 lead with 5:11 left in the half.
But the Bears roared back, holding Adelphi to just four points over the final five minutes of action to enter the locker room with a 38-32 advantage on a Sheena Howard (Philadelphia, PA) three-pointer as time expired.
Adelphi cut NYIT's lead to just one 2:50 into the second half but the Bears responded with four straight points to keep their bulge at five, 45-40. The Panthers kept battling, taking the lead for good, 54-53, with 8:10 left on a Lisa Manetta (Glendale, N.Y.) jumper.
Porter led the Bears with 23 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. The only other NYIT player in double-figures was Emily Bolling (Palmer, AK), who chipped in 12 points.
Carlyshia Hurdle (Brentwood, N.Y.) tied her career-high with 27 points and added 11 rebounds. Manetta and Mary Lepore (Manhasset, N.Y.) also reached double-digits, scoring 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Panthers return to action on Friday, December 30 when they travel to Albany, New York for a 7:00 pm meeting with St. Rose.
