Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi men's basketball team held their second straight opponent to under 40 points in a 68-33 win over visiting Bridgeport. The Panthers held Bridgeport to just 21 percent shooting and seven field goals. With the win Adelphi improves to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in conference action, while the loss drops the Purple Knights to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the NYCAC.

For the second game in a row Adelphi used a familiar formula to build a large first half lead. The Panthers held Bridgeport to two points in the first 5:10, while pouring in 13 points of their own to take a 13-2 lead early. Adelphi kept the defensive pressure up, keeping the Purple Knights below double-digits until Andre Brooks (Columbia, MD) converted a free throw to make the score 23-10 in favor of Adelphi with 6:31 left in the half.

Over the final 6:31 Adelphi outscored Bridgeport 13-7 to enter the locker room with a sizable 36-17 lead. The Panthers got 10 points of the bench from Mike Mosby (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) in the first half.

Adelphi and Bridgeport traded baskets early in the second half as the Purple Knights pulled to within 16 with 18:24 to play. However that was as close as they would get, the Panthers went on a 21-6 run over the next 17:49 to take a commanding 59-28 lead.

The Panthers edge expanded to as much as 37 points with 1:47 to play, before Adelphi finally claimed a 68-33 win.

Kevin Jefferys (Bridgeport, CT) was the only Bridgeport player in double-figures with 14 points and five rebounds.

Mosby led the Panthers with a game-high 16 points and seven rebounds. Jamaal Wagner also reached double-figures scoring 14 points and grabbing five rebounds.

The last time that Adelphi held back-to-back opponents to less then 40 points was during the 1950-51 season, when the Panthers dropped consecutive games to Maryland State and NY Maritime by identical 39-35 scores.

The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, December 14 when they play host to NYIT at 7:30 pm
