Women's Soccer Falls To C.W. Post in Overtime, 2-1

Nov. 4, 2005

Box Score

West Haven, CT - Third-seeded Adelphi tied the score at one in the 85th minute to force overtime in their NYCAC semifinal match-up with second-seeded C.W. Post. However the Pioneers scored just 57 seconds into overtime to secure a 2-1 win. They now advance to the NYCAC finals where they'll face top-seeded New Haven.

C.W. Post got on the board in the 32nd minute of play when Samantha Balzer (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) found the back of the Panther net off of her own rebound. Adelphi goalkeeper Christine Conway (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) made the original save but could not corral the rebound.

The Panthers put the pressure on C.W. Post in the second half and their efforts paid off in the 85th minute. Pioneer goalie Kim Yacenda (Greenlawn, N.Y.) attempted to clear the ball out of the C.W. Post box, but hit Catherine Wyndham (Lynbrook, N.Y.). The ball deflected off of Wyndham and into the Pioneer goal, knotting the game at one and forcing overtime.

Denise Domena (Brentwood, N.Y.) gave C.W. Post the win just 57 seconds into the extra period, when she collected a pass from Paivi Kivisto (Helsinki, Finland) pass and beat Conway.

Yacenda collected eight saves in the win, while Conway made seven. With the loss the Panthers fall to 10-4-2 overall, while C.W. Post improves to 13-3-2.
