Women's Basketball Runs Past Molloy, 75-46

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The Adelphi women's basketball got a career-high 23 points from junior Betty Mendieta (North Bergen, N.J.) to topple Molloy College, 75-46. With the win the Panthers snap a three-game skid and open up conference play with a win. The loss dropped Molloy to 0-5 on the season and 0-1 in the NYCAC, while Adelphi improved to 1-3 overall.

The game was hotly contested in the first 10 minutes of play, with neither team able to pull ahead by more then four. But Adelphi took control at the midway point, opening up a double digit lead, 25-15, on a Carlyshia Hurdle (Brentwood, N.Y.) bucket. The Panthers pushed their lead to as much as 18 with just 1:16 left and entered the locker room with a 15 point cushion, 4-25.

Molloy came out of the half gunning, the Lions went on an 11-5 run over the opening 4:50 to pull cut Adelphi's lead to 45-36. Adelphi responded in kind, scoring 11 unanswered points to take a 56-36 edge with 13:36 remaining. The Panthers would cruise the rest of the way pushing out to a 31 point lead with 50 seconds remaining, before collecting a 75-46 win.

Rose Bruno (Staten Island, N.Y.) led Molloy with 16 points and six rebounds, while teammate Randi Bender (Bellmore, N.Y.) chipped in 15 points.

Mendieta led the Panthers with 23 points on 10-14 shooting, including 3-3 from beyond the arc. Mary Lepore contributed her second double-double of the season with 17 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, December 3 when they travel to Flushing, N.Y. to take on conference opponent Queens College.
