Men's Basketball Upends Nyack, 76-68

Orangeburg, NJ - Aaron Cummings (Bay Shore, N.Y.) scored a game-high 20 points, including hitting on 4-6 from behind the three-point line, to lead the Panthers to a 76-68 win over Nyack in the second round of the Dominican Tournament. With the win the Panthers improve to 2-1 overall, while Nyack remains winless at 0-2.

Adelphi jumped on Nyack early, racing out to a 9-0 lead on two Cummings and one Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) three-pointer. The panthers pushed their edge to 15, with 13:03 to play in the first half as Donnell Cummings (South Ozone Park, N.Y.) got in on the action with a three of his own to give Adelphi a 19-4 lead.

Nyack answered back, using a 13-2 run to cut Adelphi's lead to just four, 21-17, with 8:29 to play. Nyack stayed close the rest of the way, as the Panthers slipped out a nine point lead before Nyack reeled Adelphi back in to enter the half trailing by five, 34-29.

Nyack knotted the game twice in the early stages of the second half, the second time coming on a John Van Dunk jumper with 17:13 that tied the score at 36. But Adelphi used a 9-2 run over the next two and a half minutes to move out to a seven point lead.

The Panthers continued their strong play in the late stages of the game, as Adelphi took their largest lead of the second half on a Sean Corrigan (Hicksville, N.Y.) three-pointer, which gave the Panthers a 13 point cushion. Nyack continued to play hard but could get no closer then five the rest of the way, falling 76-68.

Van Dunk led Nyack with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Brian Roberts Sheanan Martinez chipped in 11 points apiece.

Cummings led four Panthers in double figures with 20 points. Blaize contributed 17 points, while Eric Martin (Laurelton, N.Y.) added 12 points and Corrigan 11.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, November 22 when they take on Bloomfield at 7:00 pm in Bloomfield, New Jersey.
