Men's Basketball Cruises Past Dominican, 72-63

Orangeburg, N.J. - The Adelphi men's basketball team held host Dominican College to 42 percent shooting for the game and built a 38-29 halftime lead en route to a 72-63 win in the opening round of the Dominican College Tournament. With the win the Panthers even their record at 1-1, while handing Dominican an opening game loss.

Adelphi jumped on Dominican from the tip, holding the Chargers scoreless until the 16:23 mark. During that span the Panthers poured in 12 points, as four different players rung up points. The game evened out at that point as Dominican outscored Adelphi 29-26 in the remainder of the first half.

The Panthers opened the second half almost as hot as the first. Mike Mosby (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) knocked down a jumper and then Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) canned a three-pointer to push Adelphi's edge to 12, 43-31, with 17:03 to play.

Dominican cut the Panther lead to seven, with 11:32 to play, but Adelphi answered with an 11-0 run to move out to an 18 point lead and put the game out of reach.

Prince Jackson led three Dominican players in double figures with a game-high 18 points. James Gray chipped in 11 points, while teammate Paul Tuomey added 10.

Blaize led the Panthers with 16 points, including converting 4-7 from beyond the arc. Mosby also had a strong game, just missing out on his first double-double of the season with 15 points and nine boards. Aaron Cummings (Bay Shore, N.Y.) contributed 12 points and five assists.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, November 19 when they take on Nyack in the second round of the Dominican Tournament at 5:30 pm.
