In the first round of the Assumption Tournament the hosts held Adelphi to 32 percent shooting from the field, including just 16 percent from behind the line to hand the Panthers their second loss of the season, 75-46. With the loss Adelphi falls to 0-2, while Assumption remains unbeaten at 2-0.
The Panthers fell behind early as the Greyhounds jumped out to a 9-0 lead with 17:24 remaining in the first. Adelphi cut the lead to six, 21-15, on an Erin Thames jumper with 11:27 to play, but Assumption with a 7-1 run over the next three minutes to push their advantage to 12 points.
The Greyhounds pushed the lead to 19 with 2:40 to play but the Panthers closed the half with a 6-2 run to enter the locker room down 15, 41-26.
The second half was more of the same as Adelphi fell behind by 20 with 10:12 to play. Assumption's bulge would grow to as much as 31 in the second half.
Kristen DiCalogero led four Assumption players in double figures with 13 points. Charde Floyd, Kerry Milhaven, and Sara Czarnecki each added 10 points.
Thames led the Panthers with a career-high 13 points, while sophomore Gianna Smith was the only other Adelphi player in double figures with 10 points to go along with six rebounds.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, November 19 when they take on Stonehill in the second round at 2:00 pm.
