Sophomore Mary Lepore (Manhasset, N.Y.) scored 15 points in the first-half to help Adelphi to a 31-28 halftime lead. But Bentley rallied in the second-half, outscoring the Panthers 36-26 in the second frame to claim a 64-57 win. With the win 11th ranked Bentley evens their record at 2-2, while Adelphi opens the season 0-1.
Bentley jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead, but the Panthers responded with a 9-3 run to knot the game at 11 with 11:20 to play. The Panthers continued to push, creating a four-point lead, 18-14, on a long jumper from Erin Thames (River Vale, NJ). Bentley came right back using a quick 9-0 run to take a 23-18 advantage with 4:31 to play.
The Panthers put the clamps on the Falcons, holding Bentley to just five points in the final 4:31, while pouring in 13 points of their own. Lisa Manetta (Glendale, N.Y.) and Lepore combined for nine points during the run, giving Adelphi a 31-28 halftime edge.
The Falcons came out of halftime hard, producing a quick 9-2 lead to take a 37-33 lead with 15:50 left in the half on a Shannon Kirwan three-pointer. Adelphi reclaimed the lead with 13:37 left on a made lay-up by Carlyshia Hurdle (Brentwood, N.Y.).
But the Panthers could not put Bentley away, relinquishing the lead on a Kristy McLean bucket with 7:58 to play. Bentley would lead the rest of the way, collecting a 64-57 win.
Bentley had four players in double-figures, led by Lauren Moore who scored 13 points and chipped in three rebounds. Carolyn Gottstein netted 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
Lepore posted career-highs in points and rebounds, registering the first double-double of her career, 19 points and 10 rebounds. Hurdle chipped in 14 points and nine boards and Manetta scored 11 points.
The Panthers return to action on Friday, November 18 when they take on Assumption at 8:00 pm in the first round of the Assumption Tournament.
