The Adelphi University volleyball traveled to Nyack College for a non-conference doubleheader, winning both games, 3-0, on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The Panthers improve to 11-12 on the season.
The scores of the first match were 30-23, 30-20, and 30-25, while the scores for the second match were 30-19, 30-26, and 30-26. Nyack agreed to add the additional match to help fill a slot in Adelphi's schedule.
Adelphi's power hitting was led by sophomore Kathleen Creegan (North Bellmore, N.Y.) who had 13 kills
and 19 digs in the first match. Also having an impressive day was
freshman setter, Erica Valeriano (Fresh Meadows, N.Y. with 44 assists in the first match, while junior Deanna Maggio (Island Park, N.Y.) set for 47
assists in the second match. Senior libero Joann Abruzzo (Ridgewood, N.Y.) had 15 digs in match one and 21 digs in match two.
Lisa Schlea led Nyack in both matches with nine kills and 13 digs in the
first match and nine kills and 17 digs in the second match. Also
contributing offensively in the first match was Laurie Stuart with seven
kills and Grace Fleming had eight kills in the second match. Libero Katie
Hodges had 13 digs in the first match and 14 digs in the second match.
The Panthers return to conference play on Wednesday October 12, at Mercy College at 7 p.m.
