Hamden, CT -
The Adelphi men's soccer team got goals from sophomore Marin Filipovic (Albertson, N.Y.) and freshman Stephen Fregosi (Massapequa, N.Y.) to collect a 2-0 win over Quinnipiac University. The win halts Adelphi's winless streak at nine and raises their overall record to 2-8-1, while dropping the Bobcats to 3-6 on the year.
The Panthers got on the board in the 39th minute of action when sophomore Rob Philippou (Manhasset, N.Y.) sent a centering pass to Filipovic, who beat Quinnipiac goalkeeper Paul Fleck (Enfield, CT), giving Adelphi a 1-0 lead. The Panthers would take that lead into the half, out shooting the Bobcats 6-5 in the first.
Fregosi gave Adelphi some breathing room when he collected a ball that had deflected off of a Bobcat defender and found the back of the net, giving the Panthers a 2-0 cushion. It was all Adelphi would need as Michael Hurley (Freeport, N.Y.) made three saves to pick up his second shutout of the season, Fleck picked up three saves as well.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, October 8 when they play host to visiting Philadelphia University at noon in an Atlantic Soccer Conference match-up.
