Volleyball Falls To Dowling, 3-0

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi volleyball team pushed Dowling to the limit, but fell short 30-25, 32-30 and 30-26. With the loss the Panthers fall to 8-12 overall and 2-2 in the NYCAC, while Dowling runs their win streak to 14 games and improve to 17-6 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

The Golden Lions jumped out to a 12-4 lead before the Panthers battled back to pull within one, 21-20. But Dowling finished game one with a 10-5 run to take a 1-0 lead with a 30-25 win.

The start of game two mirrored game one, with Dowling jumping out to a 16-7 lead. Adelphi clawed part way back into the game and found themselves down 27-20, then came all the way back to tie the game at 29 on a Dowling attack error. Game two was again knotted at 30 on a kill by Rachael Cornick (Endicott, N.Y.), but Dowling recovered to take the next two points and the game.

Adelphi stayed close in game two, never falling farther then five points behind before taking the lead at 24-23. Dowling responded by scoring four straight points to take a 27-24 edge, but Adelphi would not quit, staying within striking distance at 28-26. The Golden Lions would close out the game with the next two points, to take a 30-26 win.

Justyna Michon (Katowice, Poland) led all players with 19 kills, while teammate Jana Cleveland (Virginia Beach, VA) had a game-high 39 assists. Natalia Koryzna (Wroclaw, Poland) chipped in 15 digs and 11 kills.

The Panthers were led by Cornick's 11 kills and nine digs, while Meaghan Joyce (Massapequa, N.Y.) contributed 10 digs. Deanna Maggio (Island Park, N.Y.) led Adelphi with 31 assists and chipped in nine digs.

Adelphi returns to action on October 6, when they play host to NYCAC rival Concordia College at 7:00 pm in Woodruff Hall.
