Women's Soccer Plays New Haven Even, 1-1

Oct. 31, 2005

Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. - New Haven got on the board first but junior Michelle Giovanniello (Nesconset, N.Y.) knotted the score at one just before the half to give Adelphi a 1-1 tie. With the tie the Panthers slip to 10-3-2 overall and 8-1-1 in the conference, while New Haven claims their first NYCAC regular season title with a mark of 8-0-1 in the conference and 14-2-1 overall.

In the 22nd minute New Haven broke through the Panther defense, when Kristen Espanola (Waren, RI) sent a ball over Adelphi's back line. Crystal Lindsay (North Haven, CT) ran onto the ball, touched it toward the Panther goal and struck a half-volley that beat goalkeeper Christine Conway (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) top left corner.

Adelphi evened the score just before the half when Erin Klimkowski (Westbury, N.Y.) moved into the Charger box with the ball and was taken down, resulting in a penalty kick. Giovanniello stepped to the 12 yard line and beat Maureen MacConnell (West Islip, N.Y.) with a well placed shot to the upper right corner of the net.

Momentum went back and forth for the rest of the match with neither team able to capitalize. Conway picked up a game-high four saves, while MacConnell collected three.

Adelphi returns to action on Friday, November 4 when they participate in the first round of the NYCAC playoffs, pairing and times are to be determined.
