Men's Soccer Topples NJIT, 3-1

Garden City, N.Y. - Oliver Skelding (Sydney, Australia) put Adelphi ahead 1-0 over visiting NJIT just over two minutes into play, helping the Panthers to a 3-1 Atlantic Soccer Conference win (ASC). With the win Adelphi improves to 4-12-1 overall and 2-3 in the ASC, while NJIT falls to 1-8-5 overall and 0-3-2 in ASC play.

Just 2:24 into the game Skelding converted a penalty kick, putting the Panthers ahead 1-0. In the 24th minute Adelphi struck again, Andrew Worth (Gray, Maine) ripped a shot that was turned away by NJIT keeper Collin Cunning (Belfast, Maine). Matt Smith (Warwick, N.Y.) was in the right place, collecting the rebound and slipping the ball into the Highlander net.

In the 63rd minute Worth put Adelphi ahead 3-0, his first shot was blocked by a NJIT defender, but Worth tracked down the rebound and beat Cunning lower left corner. The Highlanders broke up the shut out in the 84th minute of play when Eddie Romero (Laurel, DE) touched the ball to Clay Smith (Bowmanville, ON). Smith collected the ball turned, beat Adelphi goalie Michael Hurley (Freeport, N.Y.) and slid the ball into the net.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, November 1 when they play host to Columbia University at 3:00 pm.
