The Adelphi volleyball team battled back to force a fifth game against visiting Queens College, but dropped the final four points falling three games to two. With the loss Adelphi falls to 11-15 overall and 3-5 in conference play, while Queens improves to 10-14 overall and 5-3 in the NYCAC.
Game one opened with Queens and Adelphi playing even and tied at eight apiece, and then Queens used a 6-0 to take control of the game. Queens would take game one 30-22. Fortunes were reversed in game two as the Panthers jumped out to 10-1 lead and kept the Knights on their heels all game, taking game two 30-13.
Game three played out similar to game one, with both teams deadlocked at 10 and then tied again at 15. Queens used a 9-4 run to take command at 24-19 and went on to win game three 30-22. Game four was another tightly contested battle and again saw the game tied at 10, then Adelphi used a 6-1 run to take a 16-11 lead and did not look back, tacking game four 30-18.
In the fifth and final game neither team was able to move out to more then a two point lead and was tied at 12. Queens reeled off the final three points of the match to squeak out a 15-12 win in the fifth game and a 3-2 match win.
Karin Sauer (Schleiden, Germany) led the Knights with a game-high 21 kills, while teammate Milica Mrdak (Bar, Serbia-Montenegro) chipped in a game-high 22 digs.
Meaghan Joyce (Massapequa, N.Y.) led the Panthers with 14 and 14 kills, while Rachael Cornick posted her 13th double-double of the season with 12 kills and 12 digs. Deanna Maggio (Island Park, N.Y.) led all players with 43 assists.
Adelphi returns to action on October 29 when they travel to Wayne, New Jersey for a 12:45 pm meeting with William Paterson.
