Freshman Lauren Slattery (Nashua, N.H.) recorded the hat trick along with two assists to lead the Adelphi University women's soccer team to a 7-0 shutout over Mercy College this afternoon. The Panthers improve to 8-3-1 on the season and 6-1-0 in the NYCAC. The Flyers drop to 1-9-0 and 1-8-0 in the NYCAC.
Junior Lauren Lopez (Farmingville, N.Y.) got the scoring started in the 15th minute on a feed from senior Shannon McEntee (Valley Stream, N.Y.). Freshman Erin Klimkowski (Westbury, N.Y.) collected her 11th goal of the season in the 32nd minute on an assist from junior Catherine Wyndham (Lynbrook, N.Y.). The Panthers led 2-0 at the end of the first half.
Slattery picked up her first goal at 46:22 sending a shot through the hands of Mercy's keeper. Slattery followed up with a cross to senior Mary Cannata (Massapequa, N.Y.) which gave Adelphi a 4-0 lead in the 63rd minute. Slattery then teamed with freshman Melissa Fulgenzi (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) for the last three goals of the game. Slattery's goals came in the 69th and 71st minutes, while Fulgenzi found the back of the net at 76:55.
Sophomore Christine Conway (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) had one save in the shutout while Jess Maddick made six stops for the Flyers.
Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, October 26, hosting St. Thomas Aquinas College at 3:30 p.m.
