The Adelphi University volleyball team topped Merrimack, 3-0, before falling to West Chester, 3-2, to close out the Bentley Fall Classic with a 1-2 record. Juniors Rachael Cornick (Endicott, N.Y.) and Kelly Campbell (Hicksville, N.Y.) were each recognized with all-tournament honors in the effort.
In their first match, the Panthers cruised past Merrimack (7-7) 30-18, 30-23, 30-27. Cornick tallied 11 kills and 17 digs, while Campbell added eight kills and three aces. Junior Deanna Maggio (Island Park, N.Y.) had 36 assists and sophomore Lauren Flanagan (Boulder, CO) registered seven blocks.
In the afternoon match, Adelphi led West Chester (11-6) in the first two games, 30-20, 30-27, then dropped the next two 29-31, 18-30, and narrowly missed game five, 15-17. Cornick collected 17 kills and 32 digs. Freshman Erica Valeriano (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) contributed 28 digs and two aces. Maggio recorded 49 assists.
In day one, Adelphi fell to host Bentley College (11-2), 30-26, 17-30, 29-31, 26-30. Cornick had 13 kills and 31 digs. Senior Meaghan Joyce (Massapequa, N.Y.) had 14 digs and Flanagan added 10 kills.
The Panthers are now 8-11 on the season and return to action on Tuesday, October 4, hosting conference leader Dowling College at 7:00 p.m.
