The Panthers pushed visiting NYIT to the limit in the first game, falling 30-28, but could not use that momentum, dropping the next two games 30-17 and 30-22. With the loss Adelphi falls to 11-14 overall and 3-4 in NYCAC play, while NYIT improves to 10-11 on the season and 3-2 in the conference.
With the scored deadlocked at 2-2 in the first game the Bears used a 6-1 run to break things wide open and take an 8-3 lead. NYIT pushed their lead to eight at 20-12 before the Panthers rallied to take the lead 28-27 on a Kelly Campbell (Hicksville, N.Y.) kill. But NYIT would not go easily and took three out of the next four points to claim a 30-28 win.
The Panthers moved out to an 11-9 lead in game two, but NYIT stormed back with an 8-0 run to take a commanding 18-10 advantage. The Bears continued their strong play in the second half of game two, outscoring Adelphi 12-6 to collect a 30-17 win.
It looked like NYIT would pick-up an unchallenged win in game three, jumping out to an 8-1 lead and then pushing their edge to 19-10. But Adelphi would not roll over, outscoring NYIT 9-3 to pull within three at 22-19 before the Bears pulled out a 30-22 win.
Zeynep Isik (Izmir, Turkey) led the Bears with 12 kills and 19 digs, while teammate Lindsey Buss (Laguna Niguel, CA) led all players with 31 assists.
The Panthers were led by Rachael Cornick (Endicott, N.Y.), who had her 12th double-double of the season with 11 kills and 14 digs. Teammate Campbell posted a game-high 12 kills.
Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday, October 25 when they play host to visiting Queens College at 7:00 pm in Woodruff Hall.
