Men's Basketball Slips Past C.W. Post, 65-62

Brookville, N.Y. - The Adelphi men's basketball team overcame a nine point halftime deficit and outscored host C.W. Post 43-31 in the second half to claim a 65-62 win. With the win the Panthers extends their win streak to six games, while improving to 11-3 overall and 10-1 in conference play, C.W. Post evens their overall record at 7-7 and fall to 7-4 in the NYCAC.

Adelphi and C.W. Post traded baskets for most of the first half, with neither team able to move out to more then a four point edge. The Panthers took a four point lead at the 9:32 mark on a made free throw by Jamaal Wagner (Jamaica, N.Y.). But the Pioneers Justin Cole (Westbury, N.Y.) responded with two made free throws of his own and a jumper to knot the game at 20 with 8:47 to play.

Cole then sank a three-pointer to give the Pioneers a three point edge and spark a 15-2 run that ended when the buzzer sounded , giving C.W. Post a 31-22 edge heading into the locker room.

The Panthers chipped away at the Pioneer lead, turning up the defensive pressure and outscoring C.W. Post 18-10 over the first 8:16 of the second half to claim a 40-41 advantage on a Wagner three-point field goal. Sophomore Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) drained a three at the 8:12 mark to put Adelphi up four, 46-42.

Adelphi took their largest lead of the game on a lay-up by Blaize with 3:26 to play, taking a 56-49 lead. Marc Terry (Norwalk, CT) cut the Panther edge to just two with 14 seconds on the clock but Eric Martin (Laurelton, N.Y.) hit on one of two free throw attempts to give Adelphi a three point lead and the win, 65-62.

Blaize paced the Panthers with 15 points, while Martin continued his strong play, chipping in 12 points and six rebounds. Aaron Cummings (Bay Shore, N.Y.) also had a solid game, scoring 11 points and adding a game-high seven assists and six rebounds.

Cole led all scorers with a game-high 21 while teammate Marcus Taylor (Baldwin, N.Y.) just missed a double-double, scoring 10 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Jeremy Logan (Bronx, N.Y.) was the only other Pioneer in double figures with 11 points.

Adelphi returns to the hardwood on Thursday January 20th, when they travel to Bridgeport, Connecticut to take on Bridgeport at 7:30 pm.
