Adelphi placed four players in double-figures, while shooting 54 percent from the field in the second half to rout visiting Molloy, 78-50. With the win the Panthers remain in first place in the conference with a 9-1 conference mark and a 10-3 overall record pushing their win streak to five games, while Molloy falls to 4-9 overall and 3-7 in the NYCAC.
The Panthers took the lead just 17 seconds into play and would not relinquish control the rest of the way. Adelphi pushed their edge to six, 9-3, with 16:39 to go when James Samuels (Uniondale, N.Y.) caught the rebound off a Jamaal Wagner (Jamaica, N.Y.) miss and slammed it home.
The Panthers took their largest lead of the first half when Eric Martin (Laurelton, N.Y.) hit a short jumper to put Adelphi up 11, 29-18 with 1:20 to play. Molloy did not back down, responding with back-to-back three-pointers from Todd Hampton (Colts Neck, NJ) and Moises Garcia (Bronx, N.Y.) to cut the lead to five, 29-24, with just 14 seconds to play. But Wagner hit a long three-pointer as time expired in the half to swing the momentum back to the Panthers heading into locker room.
Adelphi came out in the second half and used a quick 6-0 run to push the lead to 14 with 17:20 to play. Again Molloy fought back, cutting the Panther advantage to single digits on a jumper by Vincent Falzone (Middle Village, N.Y.) at the 10:44 mark.
From there the Panthers upped their defense pressure and went on a 25-2 run over the next seven minutes of action as the Adelphi lead ballooned to 32 points, 76-44, with 3:08 remaining.
Sophomore Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the way for Adelphi with 18 points and six rebounds, including hitting on 4 of 7 from beyond the arc. Martin notched his first double-double of the season with 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Aaron Cummings chipped in 12 points, while Wagner scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Robert Mostacci (Franklin Square, N.Y.) was the only player in double-figures for the Lions, with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Moises Garcia chipped in eight points.
Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday, January 18th when they travel to Brookville, N.Y. to take on rival C.W. Post at 7:30 pm.
