The Adelphi men's basketball team shot just 35 percent from the field for the game, but held Philadelphia to just 18 percent shooting in the second half and outscored the Rams 41-21 to claim a 66-47 win in Philadelphia. With the win Adelphi improves to 9-3 overall and 8-1 in the conference, while the Rams fall to 8-4 on the season and 6-3 in NYCAC action.
The Panthers were led by James Samuels (Uniondale, N.Y.) who scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Aaron Cummings (Bay Shore, N.Y.) joined Samuels in double-figures with a career-high 17 points, including hitting on 10 of 12 free throw attempts to go along with four rebounds and four assists. Junior Eric Martin (Laurelton, N.Y.) was the only other Panther in double-figures, scoring 14 points and chipping in nine rebounds.
The Rams were paced by Tayron Thomas (Bristol, PA) who poured in a game-high 20 points and seven rebounds. Brent Welton (Philadelphia, PA) was the only other Ram in double-figures with 11 points, teammate Graham Edwards (Pottsville, PA) grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds in the losing effort.
Philadelphia held a one-point edge at the half after out shooting the Panther 42 percent to just 38 percent from the field. But Adelphi reversed that trend in the second half, holding the Rams to just five field goals in the final 20 minutes of action, while scoring 41 points, to leave Philadelphia with a 66-47 win.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, January 15th when they play host to NYCAC opponent Molloy at 3:00 pm in Woodruff Hall.
