Women's Soccer Holds Off Bloomsburg, 1-0

Sept. 5, 2004

Box Score

Bloomsburg, Pa. - Senior Josephine Coiro (West Babylon, N.Y.) scored off an assist from senior Josefa Pace (Bellmore, N.Y.) 23:56 into the game to lead Adelphi University to a 1-0 win over Bloomsburg University in women's soccer action Sunday afternoon. The Panthers improve to 2-1 on the season while the Huskies drop to 0-1.

Adelphi scored when Pace made a crossing pass to Coiro, who then headed the ball into the goal.

The game had a series of near-misses for both teams. In the first half, Adelphi hit the crossbar on two of its shots, while the Huskies hit the post with 12 minutes left that would have tied the game.

In the closing seconds, Bloomsburg put the pressure on Adelphi and was awarded a corner shot with less than 20 seconds to play. On the play, Becky Ritter was able to take the ball and head it towards the goal, however, the shot just went over the top of the net ending the game.

The Panthers outshot the Huskies 13-7 and also held a 7-2 advantage on corner kicks. Freshman Christine Conway (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) had one stop in goal for Adelphi. Brittany Moses had 10 saves for Bloomsburg.

Next up, Adelphi travels to Lock Haven Universty on Saturday, September 11. Game time is 12:00 p.m. Story excerpts courtesy of Bloomsburg Sports Information
