The Adelphi University volleyball team dropped a tough match to the University of Bridgeport, 32-30, 30-28, 21-30, 30-28, in Thursday night conference action at Woodruff Hall. The Panthers fall to 3-6 overall and 1-1 in the NYCAC while the Purple Knights improve to 5-1 and 1-0 in the NYCAC.
Junior Jessica Haynes recorded career highs with 18 kills and 15 digs along with five service aces for Adelphi. Senior Sharon Ribera collected 15 digs while sophomore Brittany Addeo had 50 assists and 11 digs.
The Panthers pushed the Purple Knights to the limit, forcing a 32-30 first game. Game two was played in similar fashion, coming down to a two-point decision. Helped by a .310 attack percentage, Adelphi rallied in game three for a 30-21 win.
UB opened game four with a 10-4 advantage before the Panthers roared back. Haynes hammered five consecutive kills to help pull Adelphi to within two points. However the Purple Knights held on for the win and the match, 30-28.
Bridgeport was led by senior Jessica Herrman with a match-high 23 kills along with nine digs. Sophomore Jessica Bornack added 16 digs and eight kills.
Adelphi returns to action on Sunday, September 19 as they travel to the College of St. Rose for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
