Adelphi came out and dominated the first half, allowing Mercy over the half line just a hand full of times. But the Lady Flyers defense held tough, turning away ever Panther attack until the 33rd minute of play. Lea Brady (Holbrook, N.Y.) collected a cross from Kristin Waldman (East Meadow, N.Y.) that had deflected off of a Mercy defender and slipped it past Lady Flyer goalie Elyssa Krossber.
The Panthers widened the margin heading into halftime when Denise Auer (Holbrook, N.Y.) struck the ball toward the goal where it was deflected in by a Mercy defender, giving Adelphi a 2-0 lead at the half.
The second half was more of the same, with Adelphi blowing the game wide open in the 52nd minute of play. Senior Josephine Coiro (West Babylon, N.Y.) collected a cross from Shannon McEntee (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and slotted it into the Mercy goal to push the score to 3-0. Then in the 54th minute of action Auer scored her second goal of the match. Just minutes later sophomore Michelle Giovanniello (Nesconset, N.Y.) scored to put the game out of reach and make the score 5-0.
McEntee picked up her second assist of the game when Jaime Parrella (Holtsville, N.Y.) pushed a shot into the Mercy goal, making the score 6-0. Freshman Jacki Walsh (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) closed out the scoring for Adelphi in the 89th minute of play, Mary Cannata (Massapequa, N.Y.) assisted on the goal.
