The Panthers dropped the first game of a doubleheader to New Haven, 6-5, but came back to take the second game 8-7 and earn the sixth seed in the NYCAC playoffs. Adelphi improves to 19-20 overall and 10-10 in the conference, while New Haven is 21-8 overall and 12-8 in the NYCAC.
Adelphi jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first inning in the first game, but gave up three runs in the bottom of the fifth to fall behind 5-2. The Panthers rallied in the top of the ninth to tie the game at five but gave up the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
In the second game New Haven took an early five run lead before the Panthers came alive and scored two runs in the top of the fourth. Adelphi battled back and put four runs on the board in the top of the seventh to tie the game at seven.
In the top of the ninth Michael Joyce (Hauppauge, N.Y.) singled to left, sending Roger Mischel (Whitestone, N.Y.) home. That run would prove to be the winning run as Chris Zinkiewicz (Massapequa, N.Y.) closed the game out by pitching a scoreless ninth to pick up the save.
Adelphi will return to action on Friday, May 7th when they take on third seeded New Haven in the first round of the NYCAC Playoffs.
