Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score
Springfield, Mass. -
Adelphi University and American International College split a softball doubleheader Friday afternoon at Yellow Jackets Field. The Yellow Jackets took the first game 2-1 in 10 innings before the Panthers bounced back to take an 8-2 win in the nightcap. Adelphi is now 11-12-1 while AIC is 7-13 overall.
AIC plated the winning run in the bottom of the 10th with the tiebreaker
rule in effect. After Adelphi was unable to plate its second run starting a
runner at second in the top of the frame the Yellow Jackets began the bottom
half with Jackie McCourt on second. Lauren Rankey bunted to move McCourt over to third, and she would plate the winning run when Nicole Siciliano's bunt just in front of
AU pitcher Sheila Feldman moved her home. McCourt beat the play at the
plate to end the game.
Kelly D'Angelo surrendered just one hit, a single by junior Theresa Kotulak in the sixth. She struck out 14 and did not give up an earned run.
Sheila Feldman scattered six hits and also did not let up an earned run for
Adelphi, striking out nine.
Brittany Provost finished the first game 2-for-4 at the
plate and tied the game at 1 in the bottom of the fourth when she scored on
a sacrifice fly by Melissa Cuthbert. Sophomore Amy Delmore
scored Adelphi's lone run in the third when she walked and later scored from
third on an error.
In game two the Panthers broke open a 2-1 game with three runs in the
fourth and three more in the fifth to give them an 8-2 lead. Junior Tara Rice
finished the game 3-for-5 for AU with 4 RBI, including a three-run triple in
the fourth. Senior Jamie Pietrantoni and freshman Kristina LoCastro also had three hits
apiece for the visitors.
Cuthbert finished the second game 2-for-3 and hit a home run to right in
the sixth. Siciliano was 2-for-3 in the nightcap and scored AIC's first run
in the bottom of the first when she led off the game with a double and later
scored on a fielders' choice by Ashley St. Germain. Junior Katie Terris picked up the victory for Adelphi in the circle, scattering six hits. Morgan Larson took the loss for AIC, striking out
three.
Adelphi returns to action Tuesday, April 13, hosting NYIT in a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.
