Garden City, N.Y. -
Adelphi managed just four runs in a 7-4 loss to Philadelphia in the first game, but exploded in the second game for 11 runs to split the doubleheader. With the split Adelphi improves to 12-9 overall and keeps their record even in the NYCAC at 3-3, Philadelphia is 3-18 on the season and 1-7 in the conference.
Philadelphia's Evan Kiesel (Quakertown, P.A.) hit a home run in the top of the first off of Adelphi's Roger Mischel (Whitestone, N.Y.) to put the Rams up 1-0. Teammate Sean Kroszner (Perkasie, P.A.) also went yard in the fourth, scoring two runs and giving Philadelphia a 3-0 lead. The Rams tacked on four more runs in the top of the fifth to push their advantage to 7-0.
The Panthers responded in the bottom of the fifth by scoring four runs to pull back in to the game and cut the Ram lead to 7-4. But that was as close as they would get, Kroszner pitched a complete game to pick up the 7-4 win, while Mischel was credited with the loss.
In the second game Adelphi was the aggressor, loading the bases for Mischel, who drew a walk to put the Panthers on the board early, 1-0. Philadelphia answered back by picking up a run of their own in the top of the second to even the score at one apiece.
But the Panthers blew the game wide open with five runs in the bottom of the third. Erik Pelkaus (Bethpage, N.Y.) started things with a double, but Tom Sicari (Westbury, N.Y.) did the most damage, clearing the bases with a triple to put Adelphi ahead 6-1.
Philadelphia picked up a run in the fourth but Adelphi tacked on three more in the bottom of the sixth. Matt DeWitt (North Bellmore, N.Y.) singles and Pelkaus brought him home with another double. Frank Alesia (Valley Stream, N.Y.) drove in two more runs with a triple to give the Panthers a 9-2 edge.
The Rams would pick up two more runs in the top of the eighth but Adelphi matched that with two of their own in the bottom of the inning. Mike Thompson (Bethpage, N.Y.) closed out the game by pitching a scoreless ninth inning. Mike Myers (Wantagh, N.Y.) picked up the win for Adelphi.
