The Adelphi University women's lacrosse tallied 17 first half goals en route to a 26-8 win over St. Anselm on Thursday afternoon at Stiles Field. Freshman Diana Lopez led the team with five goals and an assist as 12 different Panthers scored in the win. Adelphi remains perfect with a 6-0 record. The Hawks drop to 2-5.
Adelphi jumped out to a 8-0 lead when St. Anselm scored on an unassisted goal by Amanda Considine. The Panthers rallied on a 4-0 run before the Hawks picked up their second and final goal of the half with 13:58 remaining. Lopez tallied three of the next five Adelphi goals to lead 17-2 at the break.
The Hawks improved in the second half, scoring six goals, but wasn't nearly enought as the Panthers added nine additional goals. Graduate student Catherine Perez registered three of her four goals in the second half. Senior Karen Sulinski dished out a career-high six assists in the contest, tying the Adelphi single game record set by teammate Marie Ryan in 2002.
The Panther offense dominated the contest, firing off 44 shots compared with just 14 for the Hawks. Adelphi also held a 26-10 draw control advantage. Freshman goalie Allyson Murphy managed two stops in the game, while Karen Spellman had eight saves for St. Anselm.
Adelphi's previous school record of goals in a game was 22, set last year against American International.
The Panthers return to action this Saturday, April 10, hosting New Haven at 12:00 p.m.
