Fifth ranked Adelphi scored the first six goals of the game and the last four as they topped eighth ranked Bentley in a 17-3 rout. Junior Bobby Magrin (Fairport, N.Y.) led the Panthers with five points, on three goals and two assists. With the win Adelphi improves to 3-2 overall, while Bentley falls to 5-2 on the season.
The Panthers opened the scoring just a minute and a half in to the game when Doug Machen (Annapolis, M.D.) scored off a Jesse Sorensen (Baldwin, N.Y.) assist. Machen's goal opened the flood gates and Adelphi scored five more goals over the next nine and a half minutes to jump out to a 6-0 lead. Wes Green (Adelaide, Australia) scored two of Adelphi's six goals during that stretch.
Bentley finally got on the board with 2:07 to play in the first quarter as Joshua Kurland (Longmeadow, Mass.) slipped one past Brian Volpi (Lawrence, N.Y.). The Panthers responded with another run, scoring two goals in the second quarter and tacking on three more in the third before Bentley scored again. Green, Matt Schomburg (Perth, Australia), Gregory Kalberer (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Magrin all scored during the run.
Adelphi closed the game with a similar run, scoring four unanswered goals to close the game and walk away with a 17-3 win. The Panthers dominated every aspect of the game. Adelphi won 15-23 face-offs, out shot Bentley 50-21 and collected more ground balls, 58-28, then the Falcons.
Volpi collected seven saves in the win, while Andrew Hartig (Ramapo, N.J.) made nine saves in three periods of action and Christopher White (Billerica, Mass.) picked up three saves in relief.
The Panthers return to action Wednesday, April 7th when they travel to Rockville Center, N.Y. to open up their conference schedule with a 3:00 pm showdown with Molloy College.
