The Panthers rallied in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run at the plate but Matt DeWitt (North Bellmore, N.Y.) hit in to the fifth double-play of the day and Adelphi fell, 5-2 to visiting Bridgeport. With the loss Adelphi falls to 18-19 overall and 9-9 in the conference.
The Panthers struck first when Bryan Horrmann (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) doubled to center field and scored Nick Testani (Williston Park, N.Y.) to give Adelphi a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. In the top of the fifth Bridgeport battled back and scored four runs, three of which came on a home run.
Bridgeport tacked on one more run in the top of the seventh to make the score 5-1. Adelphi rallied in the bottom of the ninth and closed the gap to 5-2 when Roger Mischel (Whitestone, N.Y.) scored on a Frank Alesia (Valley Stream, N.Y.) hit. Adelphi's next two batters reached base, but DeWitt hit in to a double-play to end the threat and the game.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, May 1st when they travel to West Haven, Conn. to take on New Haven in conference action.
