Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score
Garden City, N.Y. -
Adelphi's Carla Buonviaggio (Staten Island, N.Y.) helped the Panthers to sweep a doubleheader from Molloy by throwing the first perfect game at Adelphi in over 10 years. The Panthers took the first game from Molloy 3-1 and claimed the second game 6-0 behind Buonviaggio's pitching and strong hitting.
Molloy struck first, scoring in the top of the third on a throwing error. But Adelphi responded by scoring two runs in the bottom of the same inning. Sheila Feldman (Santa Clara, CA) scored Adelphi's first run when she stole home to tie the game at one. Then Beth Fletcher (Walden, N.Y.) drove in Ivy Klein (Suffern, N.Y.) to put the Panthers ahead 2-1.
Adelphi tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when Klein hit a single that advanced Alana daSilva (Waterloo, Canada). DaSilva then went home on the throw from the outfield, putting Adelphi up 3-1.
In the second game the Panthers got on the board first. In the bottom of the second Tonia Trapani (Concord, CA) went yard to give Adelphi a 1-0 lead. Theresa Kotulak (Clifton, N.J.) gave the Panthers a 4-0 lead when she hit one over the fence, scoring Kristina LoCastro (Garden City, N.Y.) and Christina Semey (Staten Island, N.Y.). Amy Delmore (Bellerose Manor, N.Y.) closed out the scoring when she sent another Molloy pitch over the fence in the bottom of the fourth and scoring two runs.
That was more then enough for Buonviaggio, who pitched seven perfect innings. Buonviaggio struck out ten, while allowing no one on base. Buonviaggio's perfect game is the first perfect game at Adelphi in over 10 years.
The Panthers return to action Thursday, April 22nd when they host Concordia College at 3:30 pm.
