Adelphi got six points from senior Kim Delfs (Wandi, Australia) but still needed four goals in the fourth to slip past sixth ranked Dowling 13-9. With the win the Panthers improve to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while Dowling falls to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in the NYCAC.
The Panthers jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one quarter. Adelphi added another goal just 37 seconds into the second quarter when Gregory Kalberer (Holbrook, N.Y.) put one in the back of the net on an assist from Delfs. But Dowling responded by holding the Panthers scoreless for the next 25 minutes and scoring six goals of their own to knot the game at six with 9:48 left in the third quarter. Matt McDonnell (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) scored on an assist from Justin Dowling (Farmingville, N.Y.) to close Dowling's run.
Bobby Magrin (Fairport, N.Y.) and Delfs answered by scoring unassisted goals to put the Panthers back on top 8-6. But Dowling scored two goals in less then two minutes to tie the game at eight apiece. Kalberer put the Panthers ahead 9-8 with an over the shoulder goal with just three seconds remaining in the third.
Dowling tied the game for the third and final time when Dan Naglieri (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) with 12:50 to play in the game. Adelphi responded less then a minute later when senior Jesse Sorensen (Baldwin, N.Y.) scored a man-up goal on an assist from Delfs to give the Panthers the lead for good.
Adelphi added on three more goals, one from Delfs and two from Kalberer to walk away with a 13-9 win. Brian Volpi (Lawrence, N.Y.) collected seven saves for Adelphi, while Bryan Campo (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) made a game-high 13 saves to keep Dowling in the game.
The Panthers return to action Monday, April 26th when they take on conference rival LIU-Southampton at 3:30 pm on Stiles Field.
