Panthers Blank the Lady Bears; 7-0, 7-0

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team shutout NYIT by identical scores of 7-0 in a conference doubleheader, Friday afternoon. With the win, the Panthers improve to 13-12-1 on the season and 9-0-1 in the NYCAC. The Lady Bears drop to 10-18 and 8-6 in the NYCAC.

Game One - Freshman Kristina LoCastro blasted a two-run homer in the first inning to set the pace. In the second inning, junior Ivy Klein singled, scoring two runners. She then stole third and reached home on an error to give the Panthers a 5-0 lead. Adelphi picked up its final two runs in the fourth inning. Senior Jamie Pietrantoni (4-4) recorded the win, allowing five hits, no runs and four strikeouts.

Adelphi had seven runs on six hits with one error. NYIT had no runs on five hits with four errors.

Game Two - Adelphi jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Klein singled then stole second, before scoring on an error by first base. Junior Theresa Kotulak followed with a double for 2 RBI. In the fourth inning, sophomore Amy Delmore gave Adelphi a 4-0 advantage, knocking in a solo homerun, her first of the season. Three more unanswered runs in the fifth inning solidified the win. Sophomore Carla Buonviaggio (5-5) pitched a one-hitter, walking three and striking out 12.

The Panthers had seven runs on nine hits and no errors. The Lady Bears had no runs on one hit and five errors.

Adelphi returns to conference action tomorrow, April 17, hosting C.W. Post at 12:00 p.m.
