Junior center fielder Jean-Francois DuFour (Beauharnois, QUE/Beauharnois) drove in the winning run with a single up the middle in the bottom of the ninth inning to give The College of Saint Rose varsity baseball team a 16-15 win over Adelphi University in a non-conference game.
With the bases loaded and none out in the bottom of the ninth, DuFour ripped a single through the drawn in infield scoring junior second baseman Josh Colafemina (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) with the game's deciding run, ending an epic slugfest that took 3:25 minutes to complete.
DuFour went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI. He also smashed a long home run to left center in the sixth inning to become just the sixth player in school history to hit 30 career round-trippers. Colafemina was 2-for-4 on the afternoon with three runs scored and two RBI. He led off the first inning with a homer down the left field line.
Senior right fielder Matt Bertinetti (Rivers Edge, NJ/Bergen Catholic) went 3-for-5 with two runs scored while senior designated hitter Matt Moore (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall) hit a big fly to right in the third. Junior first basemen David Stringham (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) had a pair of singles and two RBI while junior catcher Joe Mariano (Troy, NY/Troy) came off the bench to provide two base hits and two RBI.
Junior first baseman/pitcher Adam Kipling (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) paced Adelphi (13-11) with three hits including a two-run shot in the seventh. Junior right fielder Frank Alesia (Valley Stream, NY/Nassau CC) went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBI while junior third baseman Roger Mischel (Whitestone, NY/Queensboro CC) added three hits and three RBI.
Senior right-hander Jason Rodriguez (Middletown, NY/Middletown) improved his record to 3-2 on the season by pitching the final two innings in relief. Sophomore right-hander Mike Thompson (Bethpage, NY/Island Trees) suffered the loss, falling to 3-1 on the year, as he allowed three hits and two runs in the eighth and ninth innings.
Adelphi returns to action Wednesday, April 14th when they play host to visiting Bridgeport at 3:00 pm.
