Garden City, N.Y. - Freshman Lauren Lopez collected a career-best six goals along with an assist to lead the No. 2 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team to a 17-10 victory over Philadelphia University this afternoon at Stiles Field. The Panthers improve to 4-0 while the Lady Rams fall to 3-3.

L.Lopez opened the scoring in the second minute of play on an assist from senior Karen Sulinski, she had three in the game. The Lady Rams quickly evened the score on a free position goal by sophomore Stacey Haldeman. Less than a minute later, freshman Diana Lopez gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead on a feed from sister L. Lopez. Philadelphia rattled off the next two goals to take a 3-2 lead in the ninth minute. Adelphi responded on a 7-0 run over the next thirteen minutes of play. Sophomore Jenna Tursi turned in two of her team high four goals in the final minute to close the gap. The Panthers led 9-5 at the half.

The Lady Rams continued its run in the second half. Senior Melissa Schott and junior Janet Tarpey scored the first two goals of the half, to close, 9-7. Adelphi responded with L. Lopez scoring two of the next five unanswered goals to pull away, 14-7, with 17:29 remaining. Philadelphia rallied with back-to-back goals when junior Katherine Hock drove in her fourth goal of the day in the 56th minute. The Lady Rams managed one final goal as senior Leigh Fennessey scored her third and final goal on a free position shot with 1:51 remaining.

The Panthers outshot the Lady Rams, 37-21, and also held a 17-12 draw control advantage.

Adelphi goalkeeper Allyson Murphy had nine saves while Philadelphia's Jill Martin had ten stops.

The Panthers return to action this Sunday, April 4, in a make-up contest against Bryant College. Game time is 10:00 a.m.
