Adelphi Rallies in The Ninth To Top Mercuhurst

Homestead, FL - Adelphi picked up their second win of the season yesterday, using a late rally to top Mercyhurst 8-7. The Panthers victory was their first over Mercyhurst since their 2001 southern swing. The win elevates Adelphi's record to 2-3 on the season.

Andrew Tinucci (Bellmore, N.Y.) pitched six stellar innings, allowing just one earned run before leaving in the sixth with Adelphi trailing 4-3. Brian Neal (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) pitched several strong innings of relief for the Panthers, stalling Mercyhurst at four. But Mercyhurst eventually broke through, scoring three runs off of Kenneth Gates (Massapequa, N.Y.) to push their edge to 7-3.

Adelphi got some breaks and rallied to score five runs in the bottom of the ninth to come away with their second win. With two out Matt DeWitt (North Bellmore, N.Y.) hit a pinch hit single to start the rally. Bryan Horrmann (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) came to bat with two outs and runners on the corners, he hit a chopper up the middle and DeWitt beat the throw to second to secure The Panthers an 8-7 victory.
