#5 Adelphi Routs St. Michael's,15-6

Middlebury, V.T. - Fifth-ranked Adelphi University scored the game's first eight goals and held off Saint Michael's College for a 15-6 win. With the win Adelphi evens their record at 2-2, while St. Michael's falls to 1-2 overall.

Senior Kim Delfs (Wandi, Australia) and junior Greg Kalberer (Holbrook, N.Y.) led the Panthers with three goals and three assists apiece. Doug Machen (Annapolis, Md.) added four goals, one in each quarter, while senior Matt Schomburg (Perth, Australia) handed out five assists. Junior Brian Volpi (Lawrence, N.Y.) turned aside 10 shots in goal for Adelphi (2-2).

Sophomore Eric Libby (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) paced the Purple Knights with three goals, while classmate Brandon Kobelt (New York, N.Y./Fordham Prep) chipped in with two goals. Junior Nick Calnen (W. Hartford, Conn./Conard) recorded a pair of assists for Saint Michael's (1-2), while junior Brian Hingston (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) recorded six saves.

Adelphi seized the momentum from the outset, racing out to a 5-0 lead after one period and an 8-0 advantage 18 minutes into the contest. Saint Michael's cut its deficit to 8-2 late in the second-quarter on a man-advantage goal by Libby and an even-strength tally by Kobelt.

Libby's unassisted goal early in the third period pulled the Purple Knights within 8-3. Saint Michael's would get no closer, however, as the Panthers scored a pair of goals 14 seconds apart midway through the frame, and clinched the victory with three quick strikes early in the final quarter.

Adelphi returns to action Saturday, April 3rd when they play host to visiting Bentley College at 1:00 pm.
