Panthers Blast Top-Ranked Stonehill, 15-5

Easton, Mass. - Junior Katherine Hock (Mineola, N.Y.) netted four goals and added an assist for five points to lead fourth-ranked Adelphi to a 15-5 non-league college women's lacrosse victory over top-ranked Stonehill Saturday afternoon at Chieftain Stadium.

The visiting Panthers (2-0) broke free of a 3-3 tie midway through the first half to score the final six markers of the opening 30 minutes of play in building a 9-3 lead at the break, and Adelphi completed a stretch of 11 unanswered goals by netting the first five goals of the second half to build a 14-3 advantage with just over 20 minutes to play. Freshman Diana Lopez (Farmingville, N.Y.) added a hat trick and an assist for four points for the winners, who also received a pair of goals each from graduate student Catherine Perez (Lyndhurst, N.J.) and freshman Lauren Lopez (Farmingville, N.Y.). Freshman Tara Grodotzke (Rocky Point, N.Y.) collected a goal and two assists for the Panthers, while sophomores Jessica Marra (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and Dawn Anselmin (Lynbrook, N.Y.) each added a goal and an assist. Senior Leigh Fennessey (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) netted a single goal as well for Adelphi.

Sophomore Jenny McGrath (Milton, Mass.) netted a goal and an assist in the setback for the host Chieftains (2-2), who saw their 21-match home winning streak come to an end in falling for the first time on home turf since May 2001. Sophomore All-America Erin Acone (Bow, N.H.) chipped in with two assists for Stonehill, which received single markers off the sticks of senior All-America Katie Shannon (Feeding Hills, Mass.), junior All-America Colby Confer (Madison, Conn.) and junior Colette Carpenter (Massapequa, N.Y.).

Freshman Allyson Murphy (Williston Park, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal for Adelphi with a 10-save effort, while sophomore Lauren Stone (Slingerlands, N.Y.) made eight stops in net for Stonehill as the Panthers outshot the Chieftains by a 26-21 margin for the match.

Adelphi heads to Springfield, Mass. on Sunday afternoon to take on American International in a match that begins at Noon, while Stonehill travels to Waltham, Mass. on Tuesday evening to take on Bentley in a Northeast-10 Conference outing that begins at 7:00 p.m.
