Adelphi Men Falter Against C.W. Post, 70-56

Brookville, N.Y. - The Adelphi men's basketball team suffered a tough 70-56 loss at C.W. Post this Saturday afternoon. The Panthers drop their second straight, falling to 11-9 on the season and 9-8 in the NYCAC. The Pioneers extend their streak to four, improving to 16-4 overall and 13-4 in the NYCAC.

Sophomore Jamaal Wagner (Jamaica, N.Y.) led the Panthers with 13 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Taylor Murphy (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) chipped in a career-high 11 points along with a team-high eight boards off the bench.

Post jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead to start the game. Adelphi struggled in the first half, connecting on just 9-of-29 (31 percent). Back-to-back baskets by Murphy shrunk the deficit to three points at 14:42. This would prove to be the closest the Panthers would get in the half. The Pioneers answered on an 18-5 run to extend their lead, 27-11, at 7:46. Adelphi pulled to within six points on a 14-4 rally with a minute remaining, but trailed 33-25 at the half.

The Panther shooting woes continued in the second half, hitting just 8-of-21 (32 percent). In contrast, the Pioneers were 11-of-27 (52.4 percent) led by junior Marc Terry (Norwalk, CT) who posted 16 of his game-high 29 points in the final 20 minutes. Wagner and Taylor combined to close the gap to four points, 37-33, at 16:06. However Post continued to gain momentum, outscoring Adelphi 33-23 to capture the win.

Adelphi committed 19 turnovers in the game and were just 2-for-13 from beyond the arc. The Panthers held a slight 40-39 rebounding advantage.

Also scoring in double figures for Post was senior Gerry McNair (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) with 13 points and sophomore Neville Strorer (Yonkers, N.Y.) with 10 points.

Adelphi returns to Woodruff Hall this Wednesday, February 11, hosting Mercy College. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.
