Adelphi held Dowling to just 35 percent shooting from the field and 27 percent shooting from beyond the arc but fell 72-70. The Panthers had two solid opportunities to send the game into overtime but fell short. With the loss Adelphi falls to 17-10 overall and 16-8 in the conference, while Dowling improves to 15-12 overall and 15-9 in conference play.
Adelphi held Dowling to 35 percent shooting (14-40) in the opening half and entered the locker room with a 39-37 edge. But Dowling came out of the locker room and used a 12-4 run to storm out to a 49-43 lead. The Panthers cut in to Dowling's lead and had the ball with time on the clock and the score 72-70. However Adelphi just could not get a shot to drop.
Jamie Douglas (Hopatcong, N.Y.) led three Panthers in double-figures with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Meranne Whitney (Nashua, N.H.) chipped in 16 points and Betty Mendieta (North Bergen, N.J.) scored 12.
Melissa Danchalski (Ridge, N.Y.) scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds. Zulmary Andino also had a strong game, scoring 18 points while handing out nine assists and grabbing eight rebounds.
Adelphi will return to action Wednesday, March 3rd when they participate in the first round of the NYCAC tournament.
