Women Fall To STAC, 84-74

Sparkill, N.Y. - Despite four players in double figures, the Adelphi University women's basketball team could not hold off St. Thomas Aquinas, falling 84-74, this Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Panthers drop to 16-9 overall and 15-7 in the NYCAC.

Junior Melanie Mangone posted a team-high 18 points. Junior Laura Phillips had 14 points and a team-high 11 boards. Senior Jamie Douglas and sophomore Carlyshia Hurdle were also in double figures, contributing 11 points apiece.

The Panthers shot 48 percent from the field in the first half, but still trailed 43-39. In the second half, the Lady Spartans outscored Adelphi 41-35 for the win.

On the night, Adelphi shot 37.8 from the field and a dismal 22 percent (4-of-22) from three-point range. STAC did not fair much better, shooting 34.4 percent on the night, but were helped by a huge night from Kelly McManus who notched 26 points and six rebounds. Brittany Thomas chipped in 19 points. The Lady Spartans also held a 50-48 rebound advantage.

Adelphi returns to Woodruff Hall on Wednesday, February 25, for its final home game of the regular season. They face the University of Bridgeport at 5:30 p.m.
